A message from Mount Oval Dental Practice

Dear  Patient,

Covid-19 has changed the landscape in which we all live and work, and dentistry is no exception. Indeed prior to the pandemic this letter would have been sent to you in the traditional way. As we all must do what we can to minimise the spread of the disease I have chosen to send this message digitally rather than by physical letter. During the lockdown period I spent a significant amount of time preparing a Standard Operating Procedure to ensure the safety of my patients and team at Mount Oval Dental Practice on reopening. I have always had stringent decontamination procedures in the practice, and these were modified and enhanced. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) was also introduced in line with Government, Dental Council and HPSC guidelines.

In this new era, it became apparent that it was simply untenable to keep Mount Oval open as a general dental practice. The time required for a deep clean of each surgery between every patient, coupled with the increased number of nursing staff required, made it impossible to carry out a fraction of the number of appointments which we did before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. I felt I did not have the resources to be able to offer the level of service you have come to expect, to the entire patient base.

I therefore made the very difficult decision to close Mount Oval Dental Practice as a general dental practice.

Following renovation, I moved my specialist dental practice O’Dea Periodontics and Implant Dentistry to the premises where the team and I will only be offering specialist periodontics and dental implants.

What this means for you

The most obvious impact is that you will have to register with another dental practice. We will make the transition to your new dental practice of choice as seamless as possible by transferring, at your written request, your patient file and treatment notes. Please e mail us at mountovaldental@gmail.com with the subject line Record Transfer and we will co-ordinate with you on transferring your records to your dentist of choice. Alternatively you can write to us marking your letter for the attention of the Record Transfer Co-ordinator. As your personal data is extremely important to us we will be adhering to GDPR guidelines. Your patience in this regard will be much appreciated as we anticipate a high volume of correspondence.

When did these changes take effect?

The general side of the practice closed on the 28th of August and I would like to thank you for your loyalty over the years which is very much appreciated. I would also like to thank the team that worked with me over the years and I wish them well in their future endeavours.

The Covid 19 Pandemic has resulted in the closure of a practice which took years of effort and passion to build. On a personal note it has been very upsetting. I shall miss the many patients who have become friends over the years, and I hope to see you again in the future.
