Ms. Niamh Collins
RDN, RDH (NUI)
Niamh commenced training in dental hygiene at Cork University Dental Hospital in 1998 following three years experience as a dental nurse. Niamh has worked as a hygienist since 2000 and joined Mount Oval Dental Practice in November 2007.
She works closely with the practice periodontist, Dr. Mary O’ Dea. Niamh provides an excellent service for patients incorporating advice on oral hygiene and the best use of oral hygiene products in conjunction with scaling. More complex and deeper cleaning is provided under local anesthetic.
Niamh also administers local delivery antibiotics for patients with more severe gum disease. Dietary and smoking cessation advice is also given where appropriate. Niamh also provides fissure sealants for both children and adults, which play an important role in the prevention of tooth decay.
Ms. Jennifer O’ Riordan
Jennifer joined the Mount Oval Dental team in September 2007 as a dental nurse. She graduated from Cork University Dental School and Hospital with a Certificate in Dental Nursing in February 2008. Jennifer completed the Straumann nurses advanced implantology course in London in March 2009. She also attended a Straumann treatment planning course in March 2010 so she can discuss treatment options with patients who maybe interested in dental implants.
Jennifer commenced training as a dental hygienist at University College Cork in September 2011. During her studies as a dental hygienist she gained over 650 hours of clinical experience treating patients with mild to severe gum disease. Jennifer also managed patients with various oral conditions. She graduated with an Honours Diploma in Dental Hygiene in June 2013.
Jennifer has a special interest in helping patients to quit smoking and she has prepared an information leaflet for patients which is available in the surgery. Continuing education is very important to Jennifer. She regularly enjoys attending lectures and the Irish Dental Association annual conference. Jennifer is registered with the Irish Dental Council and a member of the Irish Dental Hygienists Association.
Ms. Aoife O'Mahony
Aoife graduated as a dental nurse in 2010. Following three years working as a Dental Nurse she decided to undertake a new challenge and commenced studying Dental Hygiene in UCC in 2013.
Aoife is an active member of the IDHA and strives to stay up to date with the latest dentistry advances. Continuing education is very important to her. She regularly attends training courses and enjoys the IDHA annual conference.
Aoife joined the Mount Oval dental team in 2016. She enjoys making nervous patients feel at ease, teaching patients oral hygiene methods and watching them progress.
She works closely with practice Periodontist Dr. Mary O' Dea.
Aoife manages patients with mild to severe gum disease, providing advice on oral Hygiene techniques, deep cleaning under Local anaesthetic and smoking cessation advice.
