At Mount Oval Dental Practice we are fortunate enough to have Dr Mary O’Dea, a specialist Periodontist as the practice principal and owner. This means you do not need to be referred out to another practice. Mary has had to undergo extensive training in order to carry out the treatment and has successfully fitted implants for many happy patients.
What is a dental implant?
It is, quite simply, the closest thing to a replacement tooth! It is an artificial tooth root made of titanium that is gently placed into the space where there used to be a tooth. This fixture is then covered with a precision-made and natural-looking porcelain crown to restore your smile.
Dental implants can:
Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a denture.
Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.
Who can have dental implants?
Dr Mary O’Dea will carry out a thorough examination taking appropriate x-rays, to see if you are suitable for having a dental implant. Not everybody will be suitable, as it can be dependent on the condition of the bone in the area of the planned implants and your medical history. On the rare occasion there is not enough bone or it is not healthy enough she may not be able to proceed without additional treatment.
